The Craft of Art
This years American Craft Council Show in Baltimore was a gathering of more than 650 of the country’s most talented contemporary furniture, home décor, jewelry, and clothing artists. It was a pleasure to meet many artists and hear about the vision for their work, from jewelry to salad bowls, and to see the creative and unexpected application of home décor pieces in both contemporary and traditional settings. This years event included vignettes by DC area professionals, including Mary Douglas Drysdale, styled with a fine craft inspiration. (click on photo to enlarge)

An exciting array of creative artists and shoppers at the American Craft Council Show in Baltimore Maryland

“Quiet Oboes” by Myra Burg complimented by paintings by Liz Cummings are custom designed in various sizes and colors to suit the installation.

Usable hand-painted bowls and platters by Soli Pierce continue to be a feast for the eyes; long after the salad is eaten.

Lovely reverse painting on hand blown glass by Gali Chehirian is elegantly at home in both modern and traditional interiors.

Wish I had a better photo of these wire sculptures. What a whimsical accessory addition to an interior.

Mary Douglas Drysdale supported the American Craft Council with this Vignette in the Make A Room section. Mary is known for her use of fine crafts, which infuse her classic traditional interiors with breath of modern air.

This traditional Vignette featured an unexpected light fixture/ceramic sculpture with exposed tubular bulbs as the antlers.
